Personal Supports

Superior Greenstone Association for Community Living (SGACL) is mandated to provide personal support to individuals in the District of Thunder Bay who have needs related to:

    1. Developmental disabilities; and

    2. Physical or health related disabilities; or

    3. Chronic mental health problems; or

    4. Chronic behavior problems.

     

    Staff are qualified to assist with:

    1. Personal care

    2. Activities of daily living

    3. Leisure activities

    4. Attendance at community functions

     

    Community Outreach support is provided to assist individuals to access day programs, activities and services in their own homes within their  home communities.

     

    The competence and suitability of support staff is assured through:

    1. Formal education requirements

    2. Criminal reference check

    3. First Aid and CPR training

    4. Non-violent Crisis Intervention

    5. Additional training and in- service as required to meet individual support needs.

Residential Supports

Superior Greenstone Association for Community Living provides residential support in a range of care settings to meet individual needs, including both Group Living and Supported Independent Living supports. Additionally SGACL operates a Family Home Program in the town of Caramat. In Group Living locations, supportive housing for persons with developmental disabilities is provide in homes within the community. Each home accommodates 3 or 4 persons.

 

Staff are on duty in the homes 24 hours per day to assist with:

    1. Personal care and hygiene

    2. Meeting dietary, medication and treatment needs

    3. Activities of daily living

    4. Leisure activities both in and out of the home

    5. Attendance at community functions

Supported Independent Living is provided for individuals requiring less than 24 hours of care as an individual. SGACL operates a SIL program within a Thunder District Housing apartment complex in Nipigon Ontario. Seven individuals reside at this apartment complex within 6 completely self- contained units. There are staff available at the apartment 24 hours a day providing  shared support for  all the individuals living there – though no one individual requires 24 hours of support. COP or Community Outreach Program support is provided for individual living within their own residence. The primary purpose of this support is to connect the individuals with their community – accessing services within the community. Typically the hours of support provided for COP clients is for a few hours a week.
